How to give new products visibility in Shopify collections

Updated October 10, 2026

Sorting a collection by Newest shows new products, but pushes your best sellers down. Sorting by Best selling does the opposite: new products never get a chance to sell. This guide shows how to give new products visibility while keeping your best sellers in view.

SortCreation Date 4 + Recent Sales 6 + Stock Availability 8

Set up the sort

Create a sort with three criteria:

  • Stock Availability, descending, weight 8: never show sold-out products first.
  • Recent Sales over 30 days, descending, weight 6: keep what sells in view.
  • Creation Date, descending, weight 4: newer products get a boost.

Find the right balance

Use the Preview button on a collection and look at where your latest products land. If they are too low, raise the weight of Creation Date; if your best sellers drop too far, lower it. Changes only apply when you run the sort.

Launch a product

For an important launch, pin the product with Pinned products on the collections concerned. Pinned products stay at the top whatever the criteria, until you remove them.

Frequently asked questions

Can I sort only by creation date?

Yes. A sort with Creation Date alone, descending, is equivalent to Shopify's Newest sort, but it can run on many collections at once and be combined with pinned products.

Does the creation date change when I edit a product?

No. It is the date the product was created in your Shopify admin.

How do I make new products more visible?

Increase the weight of Creation Date, or pin a new product at the top with Pinned products for the launch period.
